Privacy & Telemetry
EasyBackupManager (EBM) is committed to respecting your privacy. This page explains exactly what data the application collects, what it does not collect, and how you can control telemetry.
What is collected
When telemetry is enabled, EBM may collect the following anonymous data:
- Crash reports — minimal stack traces when the application encounters an unexpected error, to help fix bugs.
- Usage counters — aggregate counts of which features are used (e.g., "backup ran", "restore ran"), to help prioritise development. These counts contain no identifying information.
What is NOT collected
- File names, file contents, or directory paths
- Backup data or snapshot contents
- Repository passwords or any credentials
- Personal information (name, email, IP address)
- System hostnames or unique identifiers
Default behaviour
Telemetry is off by default (opt-out model). When you first install EBM, no telemetry data is sent unless you explicitly enable it.
How to disable or enable telemetry
You can control telemetry at any time from within the application:
- Open EasyBackupManager.
- Go to Settings.
- Find the Telemetry option.
- Toggle it off to disable or on to enable.
Changes take effect immediately. When disabled, no data is collected or transmitted.
Data handling
- All collected data is anonymous and aggregated.
- Data is transmitted over HTTPS.
- No data is sold or shared with third parties.
- Telemetry is used solely to improve EBM's stability and features.
Credential storage
EBM currently stores repository passwords in an encrypted local configuration file on your machine. This is a temporary solution. Integration with your operating system's native keyring (e.g., Windows Credential Manager, GNOME Keyring) is planned for a future release.
